Bristol Clipper is still in second place two points behind Jersey overall |
Bristol has won the latest leg of the Clipper round-the-world race - her second triumph in a row. The yacht crossed the finish line at Cape Town at 0638 BST on Sunday to take her fourth title of the race so far.
Bristol's crew are now just two points behind leaders Jersey on the overall leaderboard after leading the field most of the way from Mauritius.
And the West country team are determined to reduce that deficit even further on the Atlantic crossing to Salvador.
Challenging race
Bristol's skipper Richard Butler said: "The last few days on the race into Cape Town were very challenging.
"Jersey was constantly snapping at our heels and at one point managed to get ahead, but we regained the lead - the win is a fantastic achievement by the crew.
"We've now closed the gap between ourselves and Jersey on the overall leaderboard to just two points, so I want to make a cracking start when we set sail from Cape Town next Sunday."
Jersey Clipper crossed the line on Sunday less than an hour after her rivals.
Cape Town's yacht motored into her home port at dawn on Monday after retiring from the current leg.
The other yachts have yet to arrive in the South African city.
The race, held every two years, is the world's longest circumnavigation challenge, covering over 35,000 miles in 11 months.
