Fears over sex shop plans
Gloucester Road
The shops' licence application will be heard on Wednesday
More than 1,100 residents in Bristol have objected to plans to open two sex shops.

Their complaints have been lodged with the council, which says this is the biggest number of objections to this type of application it has ever seen.

The shops are planned for Fishponds and Gloucester Road.

Residents have expressed concern over the shop fronts' appearances and how they will affect the areas concerned and a petition has been organised.

Police have also raised concerns because both sites are close to schools and playgrounds.

Labour councillor Alan Davies told the BBC: "This campaign has come from the people - I have done nothing to organise it.

"The location in Fishponds is the problem. It is surrounded by houses and in the middle of a shopping area with two schools close by.

"You could not find a more unsuitable location."

The licence application for both shops will be heard by the council's licensing committee on Wednesday.
