Runner's joy at 28th London race

David Clark
Mr Clark was hoping to finish the race within five hours

A runner, who has competed in every London Marathon since it began in 1981, said he was "delighted" with his time on his 28th outing.

David Clark, 73, from Newbury, Berkshire, finished Sunday's event in 5 hours and 25 minutes - his fastest time since turning 70.

He ran in aid of the Newbury Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mr Clark is one of only 22 people to have run in every race and hopes he can carry on for a few more years yet.

'Personal best'

He took up long distance running after joining Newbury Athletics Club and his best ever marathon time is 2 hours and 41 minutes.

He said: "It was pretty good to get a personal best since turning 70.

"We were all hoping it would be a bit cooler but it was great fun.

"As every year it was tough, but it has not put me off going for 30 races."
