Tindall, 29, admitted being over the legal alcohol limit

England rugby player Mike Tindall has pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

The 29-year-old Gloucester centre was charged with drink-driving after being arrested on the M4 near Newbury in Berkshire on 15 March.

Tindall, from Minchinhampton, Gloucs, was stopped the morning after a day at the races in Cheltenham with his partner Zara Phillips.

He admitted being over the legal alcohol limit at Reading Magistrates' Court and was bailed until 24 October.

'Special circumstances'

He will appear before magistrates in Newbury, West Berkshire, for a "special reasons" hearing, the court heard.

Tindall's lawyer, Richard Mallett, said a medical expert would be called on that occasion to present the special circumstances of the case.

At the time of his offence Tindall was injured with a bruised liver, an injury suffered while playing against Wales.

Officers pulled over his Range Rover Sport when he was on his way to Twickenham, reportedly to commentate on England's Six Nations game against Ireland.

He failed a breath test. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

He had been driving alone.
