Residents face days without water
Hundreds of people are facing several days without water as engineers investigate complaints that the supplies have been contaminated.

Thames Water said several people in the Pamber Heath area, on the Berkshire/ Hampshire border, reported there was a petrol-like taste in their tap water.

Residents in more than 760 homes have now been advised not to use the water to drink or wash until further notice.

Thames Water said it would be Tuesday before the problem has been resolved.

Warning notice

A spokeswoman for the company said bottled water was being handed out to local residents and static water tanks would also be on the streets.

She said water samples had been sent to be tested and it would be Tuesday before the results were known.

One resident, Sylvia Stamp, told the BBC: "The card says 'Do not use your water supply until further notice. Your water supply may be contaminated. We will notify you when your water supply is back to normal and we apologise for the inconvenience'.

"I've already had my breakfast with water out of the tap to make tea. I haven't washed or cleaned my teeth and later in the day I'll want to do some washing.

"But the main thing is I won't be able to have any access to water for drinking."
