Adverts target domestic violence
The two adverts will appear on buses across the Thames Valley

A frank advertising campaign aimed at ending violence against women has been launched across the Thames Valley.

Two posters will appear on buses in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, targeting men who are violent against their partners.

One advert reads: "Relax, go ahead and read. No one on this bus can tell you're a wife beater."

Francis Habgood, Assistant Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, said domestic violence was not tolerated.

Awareness walk

He added: "Victim safety is a priority and our arrest rate for domestic violence has increased considerably in the past year as part of a determined clampdown on offenders. There will be no let up."

The initiative is part of the International Week to End Violence Against Women.

In Reading, Supt Steve Kirk will take part in a walk through the town on Friday, 24 November, aimed at raising awareness of domestic abuse.

Also, South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse district councils have agreed to support Berkshire Women's Aid so it can double its outreach service.
