Domestic violence is expected to increase during the World Cup and police are urging victims not to suffer in silence. Sgt Jo Ferris, of Thames Valley Police, said: "It is a sad fact that all types of crime including domestic abuse tend to rise during major sporting events."
Police blame a combination of "emotions running high" and people drinking more alcohol for the increase in violence.
Police said victims of abuse should not be afraid to contact them.
Sgt Ferris said: "Domestic abuse is often a hidden crime and we appreciate the courage of victims who take the step to report such abuse.
"We are totally committed to investigating any reports of domestic violence, protecting the victim and relentlessly pursuing the offender."
