New scheme to beat bogus callers

Posters and leaflets are being handed out to residents
A new scheme to help vulnerable people at risk from con artists and burglars has been launched.

The nominate a neighbour scheme in Dorset means any callers not recognised will be directed to a relative or friend living nearby.

It is intended mainly to protect the elderly from bogus callers and distraction burglaries.

Special cards and window signs are being issued to those local residents taking part in the scheme.

Debbie Kelly Community Safety Officer said: "The nominated neighbour card has been designed to try and stop the older and more vulnerable members of our community becoming victims of bogus callers and distraction burglaries.

"The nominated neighbour can then verify the caller and accompany them back to the premises and stay with them until business is completed."
