Festival campers warned of thefts
Reading Festival
About 40,000 festival-goers will be weekend campers
The first of 66,000 expected music-lovers have begun arriving for this year's Reading Festival.

Weekend campers have already descended on Richfield Avenue ahead of the three-day Bank Holiday weekend event despite Wednesday's downpours.

Police have appealed to campers to avoid becoming easy prey for thieves which may target the event.

They say officers will be given a hit list of known criminals and will be keeping an eye out for them.

Common sense

High-profile patrols are to be laid on across the site and the force is to have its own fully-operational station at the festival.

Ch Insp Steve Thwaites of Thames Valley Police, said: "My plea to people coming to the festival is to have a good time and enjoy themselves but also to use their common sense.

"Leave valuables at home and only bring what you can carry. If it is left in your tent, it is more than likely going to be stolen so, please, do not be complacent."

Pixies, Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden are headlining this year's festival.
