A major multi-cultural music, arts, dance and culture event is taking place in Wokingham on Saturday to celebrate Black History Month.

It includes African storytelling, calypso, gospel, steel bands and stalls of different kinds of ethnic food.

Organisers, the council's Ethnic forum, say they hope it will also highlight and address some of the issues faced by black and minority ethnic communities.

It will be supported with presentations in the county's schools.

Jeff Hinds is behind this festival after many years running the Reading carnival.

He said: "Black History Month has become a nationwide event and in time will become a European-wide celebration, providing a wonderful source of education, cultural enrichment and entertainment for the folks of Wokingham and surrounding areas.

"This new festival brings organisations, people, interests and cultures together in a completely new way and should really put Wokingham on the map."
