Trained volunteer parents will walk children to school |
Children at a primary school will become the first in Slough, Berkshire, to pioneer the "walking bus" scheme during the school-run. Parents will pick up pupils from the junction of Coleridge Crescent and Rodney Way and drop them off at Pippins School in Raymond Close in Colnbrook.
The move is part the council's road safety campaign aimed at reducing the risk of children being hurt in traffic.
The volunteers walk the pupils, wearing green tabards, to and from the school.
Tina Housego, Slough Borough Council's road safety officer, said: "A walking bus is a great way for children to walk to school in a safe and social way.
"This is the first walking bus in Slough and we hope other schools will follow Pippins' example and create walking buses of their own."
Transport commissioner councillor Dexter Smith, also chair of governors at Pippins School, said: "Getting more children to walk to school has many benefits - it encourages a healthy lifestyle from an early age, reduces parking congestion around the school entrance and improves safety for children."
