Forum to tackle race hate crimes
Street scene
Ethnic minorities may face violence because of their race
Police are joining forces with community groups to tackle race hate crimes in part of Berkshire.

A regular forum will include police officers and councillors in Bracknell working to increase reporting of racially-motivated crime.

Residents of the town are also being encouraged to volunteer to be key members of the team.

Advisory groups in nearby Maidenhead and Reading have already proved successful, Thames Valley Police said.

The group will also promote the help and support available to victims.

Stef Russo, Thames Forest's race and relations police officer, said: "Although Bracknell has a relatively low rate of reported racial incidents, the aim is to further reduce any racist and other hate crimes, while seeking to develop greater trust and confidence among minority groups."

The first meeting is due to take place at Priestwood Community Centre on 16 March 2004 at 1930 GMT.
