Post offices facing closure

The Post Office is proposing to close 3,000 offices in the UK
Eight post offices in Berkshire have been earmarked for closure.

The Post Office is planning to shut seven in Reading and another in Wokingham.

But customers are being told they can stop the closures if they make a good enough case for them to be retained.

There is a six-week consultation period and Postwatch, the industry watchdog, is now seeking the views of local residents.

A spokesman said: "Postwatch is currently examining these proposals to assess the accessibility and quality of the remaining post offices in the area.

"Where we are not satisfied that customers will still have good access to post office services, we will strongly oppose the proposed closure."

The Post Office is proposing to close 3,000 offices across the UK as part of a restructuring programme.
