Drug police ask for help
Crack cocaine
Reading has been officially designated a "High Crack Area"
Police tackling drug crime in the Thames Valley are appealing for help from the local community.

They will be surveying residents of Reading to gather information about where the drug dealing is taking place and how it affects communities.

Thames Valley Police say the feedback is essential to the ongoing Operation Eightfold.

Eightfold was launched in response to the government's official designation of Reading as a High Crack Area.

Police raids

It has already seen large police raids with several people being charged with drug dealing.

Detective Chief Inspector Melvyn Young explained: "Crack cocaine and the crime and anti social behaviour it generates can have a severe impact on communities.

"Decent, law-abiding residents can have their quality of life affected by a crack house opening in their area or by crime committed in their area by people trying to fund a drugs habit.

"We want communities to come on board and work with us to fight back at this small minority of people who think it is acceptable to affect the lives of others in such a dramatic way."
