Alan Pemberton left the family home over a year ago
An inquest has opened into the deaths of three members of the same family shot dead in their luxury home in a quiet village.

It is thought Alan Pemberton shot his wife Julia and teenage son William before turning the gun on himself in Hermitage, Berkshire.

Their daughter Laura, who was away at university at the time of the shootings on 18 November, revealed Mr Pemberton had been handed an injunction a year ago after making threats to kill his wife.

The inquest was opened and adjourned on Wednesday ahead of funerals expected to take place on 3 December.

Domestic violence

Post mortem examination results released on Friday confirmed Mrs Pemberton and her son were killed by shots to the chest and stomach.

Mr Pemberton, of Bronze Ash, near Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, died from a shot to the head.

Police say 14 shots were fired using a 12-gauge shotgun meaning the gunman must have reloaded the weapon seven times.

On Sunday Thames Valley's domestic violence unit revealed it had had "dealings" with the Pemberton family in the past.

A police spokeswoman said: "They had contact with Mrs Pemberton but I don't know how recently or when the last time was."

Police also revealed that the weapon used in the shooting was not owned by Mr Pemberton but had not been stolen.
