Residents are bracing themselves for more huge traffic delays as the 2003 Reading Festival gets under way. More than 70,000 music fans began their descent on the town on Thursday, ahead of the three-day Bank Holiday event beginning on Friday.
Traffic problems are likely to be compounded by the closure of the Reading to Paddington railway line.
The traffic congestion over the weekend will remain" heavy" and motorists have been warned to either avoid the area completely or leave plenty of time for journeys.
Meanwhile, festival organisers have been advising revellers to use the Park and Ride at London Bridge and the Madejski Stadium.
South West Trains is to run a more regular service between Reading and Waterloo over the festival period.
