Runaway swan alarms M4 drivers
Swan
Police believe the swan is now resting at a nearby lake
A runaway swan has ruffled feathers among commuters on the M4.

Worried motorists called police after spotting the bird wandering on the hard shoulder of the motorway in Reading, Berkshire, at about 0700 BST on Thursday.

Patrol cars arrived to find the creature apparently stranded between junctions 11 and 12 of the packed road.

But as officers approached, it flew off.

Police believe the swan is now recovering at a lake in nearby Theale.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "We were called to deal with a swan that was hanging around on the hard shoulder of the M4 between Theale and Three Mile Cross.

"Drivers were concerned that it was unable to fly, although when police arrived it flew off."
