Rush-hour rail chaos
South West Train
Many trains were replaced by bus services
Thousands of rail commuters travelling between Berkshire and London suffered "serious" delays during Monday's rush-hour - after unfinished engineering works left many services at a standstill.

Overnight works in London had "over-run" causing the disruption to the Reading to Waterloo service, according to a spokesperson for South West Trains.

The engineering works, carried out by Network Rail, were scheduled to finish in the early hours of Monday morning but were not complete until 0700 BST.

The works involved maintenance on four tracks between Waterloo and Vauxhall stations, in London.

"A lot of trains coming into Waterloo go through Vauxhall, so it would have affected a lot of services, " the South West Trains spokeperson said.

Replacement bus services had to be used.
