Tributes to former code breaker

The family of an 89-year-old woman from Buckinghamshire who died after being hit by a car has paid tribute to her.

Mary Adams was fatally injured while walking along Bridge Street in Olney.

Mrs Adams originally worked as a code breaker at Bletchley Park during World War II, before becoming a doctor's receptionist in Newport Pagnell.

Her family said the great-grandmother- of-six was proud and formal in her approach, strong willed but with a heart of gold.

Mrs Adams was also the mother of two children, and had five grandchildren.

'Devoted Christian'

In a statement released by Thames Valley police her family said: "Mrs Adams was an active lady who was always busy in Olney.

"She was a member of several clubs including the Archaeology and Senior Citizen club.

"A devoted Christian, she carried out work for St. Paul and St. Peters Church in Olney."

Mrs Adams was walking in Olney in January when she was hit by a Peugeot 306 car in Bridge Street.

Thames Valley Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
