The proceeds of the sale will go to charity |
A kart belonging to two-time Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton has sold for 42,100. The 22-year-old Formula One driver, of Tewin, near Stevenage, Hertfordshire, sold his kart on eBay, along with the chance to meet him on 21 June.
All proceeds from the sale of the kart, which has a top speed of more than 80mph (130km/h), will go to Tommy's, the baby charity.
McLaren driver Hamilton began karting at the age of eight.
He progressed through the ranks to Formula Super A, becoming European Champion in 2000.
In 1998, he became the youngest ever driver to secure a Formula One deal when he was signed to McLaren's development programme.
Hamilton has enjoyed a record-breaking start to his Formula One career, becoming the first competitor to finish on the podium in his first three races.
He now divides his time between the family home in Stevenage, and a flat he bought in Woking, Surrey, near McLaren's headquarters there.
