Michael Perham poses with Cheeky Monkey before setting off |
A 14-year-old boy is set to make history as the youngest person to cross the Atlantic single-handed. Michael Perham, who lives with his parents in Potters Bar, Herts, is due to arrive in Antigua on New Year's Eve.
He has been at sea for three weeks on a 3,500 mile course from Gibraltar, past Africa and across the Atlantic.
The record for the youngest person to cross the Atlantic was set by Sebastian Clover, 15, from the Isle of Wight in January 2003.
Michael's yacht, Cheeky Monkey, is being shadowed by his father, Peter, a quantity surveyor, who is also in radio contact.
