Force prepares for knife amnesty

Special bins are being delivered across Hertfordshire as the county's police force prepares for a knife amnesty.

The 30 disposal bins are being delivered to police stations ahead of the National Knife Amnesty which begins on 24 May.

During this time, people can get rid of knives without fear of prosecution for possessing an offensive weapon.

Herts Police said they want to encourage parents to dispose of weapons which children may have access to.

Community Safety Manager Roy Aldwin said: "We are asking that anyone who has a knife, or any other offensive weapon, to hand it in - whether it is kept at their home, in business premises, or is carried around with them.

"We particularly want to encourage concerned parents or guardians of young people to bring in any weapons their children possess or have access to."
