Prostitutes and kerb crawlers are being targeted in red light districts |
New action is to be taken against prostitutes touting for business in parts of Norwich. Police say that after two warnings are issued to prostitutes, an Anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) can be applied for to exclude them from certain areas.
If caught for a third time after an ASBO is issued, prostitutes could face imprisonment for up to five years.
Police said they also plan to write to the registered keepers of cars driven by kerb crawlers, believing potential
embarrassment could deter them.
Inspector Brian Pincher from Norfolk Police said: "We believe this is a more effective way of dealing with these matters.
"There is clear evidence that the vice trade or sex industry has links with crime and certain types of violent crime and it is hoped that this will reduce as our activities impact upon the area," he added.
