Wardens to restore traffic order
A district council has been forced to restore 12 "traffic warden" posts after unauthorised parking by motorists caused chaos in a market town.

In a bid to reduce illegal parking in Royston, attendants have been appointed by North Hertfordshire District Council.

The 12 attendants are expected to start work in Royston, Baldock and towns in the surrounding area from Monday.

The council took on the task last year when police withdrew to cut costs.

Since then road traffic restrictions have not been enforced and traders have been complaining that motorists have been parking in their delivery bays.

In turn, drivers have been complaining that lorries have been parking in areas designated only for cars.

The council agreed to appoint new parking attendants in December and to restore order to parking in the town.
