Midland Mainline is concerned about attacks on staff
Midland Mainline is fitting new trains with CCTV cameras and hopes footage of attacks will help police prosecutions.

About 80 train staff are attacked every year and so far in 2004, 44 personnel have already been assaulted.

Davina O'Connor of Midland Mainline said: "People get angry or lose their temper and give a lot of verbal abuse and sometimes it becomes physical."

One attack was caught on film just days after the CCTV cameras were installed on trains.

The footage is set to be used in a British Transport Police prosecution.

Midland Mainline routes run from South Yorkshire, through Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, to London St Pancras.
