Parents meet over school TB scare
TB bacterium
Parents have been sent letters about the TB situation
Parents concerned about a tuberculosis (TB) scare at a school in Bedford are to meet health experts on Monday.

Some 40 students and staff at John Bunyan Upper School have been tested for the disease after a 15-year-old boy was diagnosed with TB.

The boy, who is being treated with antibiotics, is thought to have contracted it during a visit to India.

Letters were sent out to parents explaining the situation last week.

Dr Pat Nair, consultant in Communicable diseases at Bedfordshire Health Protection Agency said the chance of TB spreading to other children was "very small".

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire County Council said: "A year 10 student has been diagnosed as having tuberculosis and is responding well to treatment.

"Parents and students have been invited to an information evening at the school on Monday with representatives from the Health Protection Agency."
