Teenager on Neighbourhood Watch
Burglar enters house through window
A teenager volunteers to be a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator
One of the youngest people ever to take charge of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme is on the beat in Buckinghamshire.

Thomas Baker, 13, new co-ordinator in Whitchurch, near Aylesbury, volunteered at a parish council meeting.

"I really enjoy the role," said Thomas, a pupil at Aylesbury Grammar School.

"I enjoy helping residents and making sure everyone knows what's going on. It's especially important to make sure elderly people are OK and feel safe."

Thomas Baker attended the parish council meeting with his mother when he offered to take on the role of Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator.

Passing on crime advice

He will now keep residents informed of police initiatives and passing on crime prevention advice.

He is also in charge of reporting any suspicious goings-on to police and he chairs regular meetings at which residents voice their views.

He also represents them at other meetings in the wider Aylesbury area.

Thames Valley Police spokesman James Simpson said: "The traditional view is that it's usually older people who do Neighbourhood Watch.

"Thomas is certainly one of the youngest co-ordinators ever in the UK. He's already done some excellent work."
