Bronson has spent almost 30 years in jail

On Wednesday, a judge ruled the Prison Service was legally entitled to ban their use to prevent those who had built up "a small industry" based on the "Charles Bronson cult" from profiting further from his notoriety.

Bronson adopted the name Ali Charles Ahmed when he converted to Islam.

He married Saira Ali Ahmed in June 2001 at Woodhill maximum security prison in Milton Keynes, with prison reform campaigner Lord Longford among the guests.

Mrs Ahmed, of Spencer Road, Luton, applied for permission to use the photographs, which are in her possession, in her forthcoming autobiography but was turned down by the Prison Service.

Mr Justice McCombe backed the Prison Service and said it was right to fear the photographs could be republished by "unscrupulous" people wanting to profit from the personality cult surrounding Bronson.

The judge said "objectionable" material published on the internet justified the Prison Service stance on the photographs.

He said: "This demonstrates that the unscrupulous will stop at nothing to promote and enhance the notoriety of Mr Bronson.

"Such people would undoubtedly use material like the photographs to that end, despite Mrs Bronson's assertions that she personally would give any money the photographs generated to charity."
