An elderly woman from Buckinghamshire was woken by a burglar's mobile phone after it went off during a break-in. A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said on Saturday that the pensioner frightened the thief off after demanding that he leave her house.
The pensioner was asleep in her lounge at an address in Little Marlow Road in High Wycombe with her back door open at about 1420 BST on Wednesday.
She woke with a start when she heard the intruder's ring tone only to find him standing next to her.
Ordered out of house
The man claimed to be looking for "Thomas Murphy".
But the victim ordered him to leave immediately and he left through the back door.
The man walked off in the direction of Newtown Road.
Thames Valley Police described the man as white, in his late thirties, about 5 ft 5 in tall and he spoke with an Irish accent.
Officers are urging residents to be extra vigilant with their security arrangements during the hot weather.
