More bail for rape inquiry Huddersfield Giants players

Six rugby league players arrested over an allegation of rape at a Newcastle hotel have had their bail extended while police investigations continue.

The members of the Huddersfield Giants Super League squad had been staying at the Gosforth Marriott Hotel in January.

Following a complaint by a 22-year-old woman, the men were arrested on suspicion of rape and later bailed.

They had been due to answer bail on Thursday, but Northumbria Police said this had now been extended to 16 April.

The team was visiting the North East as part of a pre-season tour.

Following the rape allegation, the club's managing director Richard Thewlis said there would be an internal inquiry.
