Footballer hit by car has fractured skull

A Ludlow Town footballer is in hospital with a fractured skull after being hit by a car on the night of his team's Christmas party.

Lucas Bladen was returning to his hotel in Wolverhampton during the early hours of Sunday when he was hit by the car.

Manager Stuart Cornes said in addition to the fractured skull the 21-year-old had suffered swelling to the brain.

He said everyone at the club had been upset by the news but had since been told the damage may not be long term.

"It was a horrible situation," Mr Cornes said.

"We had had a good night out and this gave a sour end to it," he said.

Ludlow Town play in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division.

West Midlands Police said they had been called to the scene, in Waterloo Road, and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
