Downing's ex-agent facing charges

Downing has recently returned from long-term injury

The former agent of Aston Villa and England footballer Stewart Downing has been charged with fraud.

Ian Elliott was arrested in September last year in relation to allegations of financial irregularities made by the former Middlesbrough player.

Cleveland Police said the 51-year-old agent, of Tyneside, would appear before Teesside Magistrates' Court in the new year charged with five counts of fraud.

Downing, 25, was transferred to the West Midlands club in the summer.
