Airports reopen after heavy snow

Two North East airports have reopened after a day of heavy snow.

Despite there being no fresh snow overnight, many roads are still icy and the A689 and the B6278 on the North Durham and Cumbria border are closed.

Newcastle and Durham Tees Valley airports were shut down for a short time on Thursday diverting a number of flights, but they are back to normal

Motorists are warned to take care on minor roads where snow has not melted. No further snow is currently forecast.
