Mr Walker was a technology teacher at the secondary school |
A County Durham teacher has appeared before the General Teaching Council (GTC), accused of expressing religious intolerance on the internet. Adam Walker, a member of the British National Party from Spennymoor, is said to have expressed unacceptable views while using a school laptop in 2007. He taught technology at Houghton Kepier Sports College, near Sunderland. The GTC agreed to adjourn the case against the 39-year-old former soldier until 29 April. The allegation, brought by the GTC states Mr Walker engaged in unacceptable professional conduct while employed at the college between February and March 2007. He resigned after the college began disciplinary action. A GTC panel sitting in Birmingham on Tuesday rejected an application for it to stay the proceedings because Mr Walker was not represented by a lawyer. Mr Walker said he would examine whether he was able to seek a judicial review of the panel's decision.
