Elise Laverick and Anna Bebington won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games

Olympic medal winner Anna Bebington has been honoured at a reception in Staffordshire.

Ms Bebington, 25, a former pupil at Westwood High School in Leek, won a bronze medal in the women's double scull in the recent games in Beijing.

Schoolchildren and rising sports stars from across the Staffordshire Moorlands attended the event.

The event is organised by the district council which said everyone was proud of her achievements.

She was awarded a cut-glass rose bowl from council chairman Tony McNicol.

Councillor Mark Deaville said: "We're justifiably proud of Anna's fantastic achievements.

"She's a great example to young people of the rewards that dedication can bring.

"Not everyone can rise to the heights scaled by Anna but we can all improve our health and quality of life by taking exercise."
