Joey Barton admitted attacking the teenager |
A teenager attacked by footballer Joey Barton was left with scars to his face and mouth, a judge has been told. The player was convicted in May of the attack which broke the jaw of Jordan Spencer, who was 16 when it happened. The teenager is suing the 26-year-old Premier League player for damages over the assault which happened in Liverpool city centre on 27 December 2007. Mr Barton was not present for the hearing at Liverpool County Court which was adjourned until after April 2009. The player had admitted assaulting Jordan and was jailed for four months in May. Dead tooth District Judge Michael Baker was told the youngster was left with a scar on his face which could be seen "from six feet away". Richard Edwards, representing Jordan, said a surgeon had prepared a report on the injuries. He said: "The scar on Mr Spencer's lip can be seen from six feet away. "There is a (second) scar on his lip which may indicate the presence of a foreign body and damage to one of his upper left teeth which dentists have said is now dead." At the court hearing District Judge Baker agreed that Phil Alcock, representing Mr Barton, should be allowed to question Jordan when the case next comes to court.
