The Coventry event was expected to involve more than 500 cars |
Organisers of two motoring festivals have called off the events after weather forecasters predicted heavy rain this weekend. The annual Coventry Festival of Motoring on Saturday and Sunday, and the Classic Car Show at Himley Hall, Dudley, on Sunday have been cancelled. Those behind the events apologised to anyone who had been planning to go. They said both of the venues were already waterlogged and were expecting the weather to get worse. The Coventry event, at the War Memorial Park, was expected to involve more than 500 cars from all over the UK. They were expected to congregate at the site before going on parade around Warwickshire in the event organised by the Coventry Transport Museum. Malcolm Oliver, chairman of the organising committee said: "We are really sorry that we've had to make this difficult decision. "We really wanted to give all entrants and spectators a good show and a quality event however with the current and forecasted weather sadly this will not be possible." Geoff Price, organiser of the Dudley event, said it had taken 12 months' planning and it was "both devastating and heartbreaking" to have to cancel it at the last minute.
