The Trinity Mirror newsgroup is to axe 65 editorial jobs across the West Midlands while the Birmingham Post will become a five-days-a-week tabloid. The morning broadsheet, which is currently published from Monday to Saturday, will also concentrate on business news in future. Production will move to a multimedia setup at Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, with a similar newsroom set up in Coventry. The firm said it hoped staff would consider voluntary redundancy. The company publishes the Post, Birmingham Mail, Coventry Telegraph, Sunday Mercury and other weekly titles in the Midlands. As part of the changes, it also plans to sell its newspapers in Northampton and Long Eaton. Birmingham Post editor Marc Reeves said: "Moving to a new format gives us the opportunity for the print version of the Post to follow the website in attracting a new generation of younger - but no less serious - business readers."
