Field camp for asylum protesters
Protesters in Crawley
Campaigners against the detention centre took to the streets in April
Organisers of a protest camp opposing a new detention centre close to Gatwick have announced they will be based near a village north of the Sussex airport.

The No Border Camp has been given permission to be based in a rented field near Salfords, in Surrey, for the six-day event starting on 19 September.

The group, which is against all forms of immigration control, is planning to hold peaceful demonstrations.

The Home Office plans to open the 420-bed detention centre in 2008.

'Fair approach'

Brook House will be close to the existing centre, Tinsley House, which currently holds 135 people.

The Home Office has defended the plan, saying detention is part of a fair and robust approach towards asylum.

In April, more than 100 people took to the streets of Crawley in a demonstration against the building of the second detention centre.

Organisers of next week's protest are expecting hundreds of people to attend the No Border Camp, with demonstrations planned in Crawley, Gatwick and Croydon, south London.
