A driver had to be rescued by a fire crew when he became trapped on a County Durham river crossing. Emergency services were called to Stanhope Ford after the light haulage truck was swept off the road by the force of water on Wednesday morning.
The seven tonne truck was later removed by a recovery vehicle.
The crossing has been the scene of a number of rescues and Durham County Council is considering closing it during the winter months.
A formal consultation process is taking place throughout August.
