Region ready for Arctic flurries
Gritter lorry crews
Gritter lorry crews took to the roads throughout the evening
Gritting lorries took to major roads across the West country in preparation for heavy snow falls predicted throughout the night.

Early on Thursday, snow was reported to be falling in Wiltshire and Gloucs.

BBC West weatherman Richard Angwin said: "A weather front is expected to run up against the very cold air that has been over the country recently.

"We expect there to be a period of as little as three or four hours when the snow will fall quite heavily."

Paul Smith, highway network support manager, at Wiltshire County Council said: "Never assume a road has been gritted, but we are ready to make sure Wiltshire can keep on the move.

"We hope people will play their part by restricting unnecessary journeys and taking care when they are on the roads."
