Children's champion Esther Rantzen takes a stand against bullying |
Children's champion Esther Rantzen is to visit Durham to help launch a revamped anti-bullying campaign. Durham County Council has updated its campaign to give tips on coping with all new forms of "technology bullying" such as email and mobile phone abuse.
Ms Rantzen, chairwoman of ChildLine, will be at Durham County Hall on Monday presenting prizes to young people who have helped redesign the project.
The campaign also highlights how to deal with racist and homophobic abuse.
Ms Rantzen will award certificates to schools that have gained the anti-bullying accreditation.
Val McFarlane, of Durham County Council's Anti-Bullying Service, said: "The county has long been at the forefront in tackling the issue of bullying in schools.
"But the new policy will be available to all staff working in children's services to ensure young people in the county get the best possible anti-bullying protection.
"Guidelines have been updated and include information for young people, their parents or carers and staff who work with them in schools and other organisations."
