Rail passengers are being warned to expect delays due to the predicted high temperatures on Wednesday. Virgin Pendolino services on the West Coast Main Line, between London Euston and Lancaster, will be restricted to a 90mph speed limit for safety reasons.
This will also affect the routes to Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.
Heat caused railway lines to buckle in the Midlands on Tuesday and many services from New Street Station in Birmingham had to be cancelled.
The Met Office said many parts of England reached official heatwave conditions on Tuesday and temperatures were expected to rise on Wednesday.
A spokesman for Virgin Trains said: "Virgin West Coast services will be subject to delay and there will need to be some cancellations although we will try to keep these to a minimum.
"Whilst the inconvenience to customers is regretted, safety of the track is of paramount importance at a time of record breaking temperatures."
