People's impact on the landscape and wildlife will be monitored |
The West Somerset Coast has been chosen to pilot a scheme aimed at helping more people enjoy coastal areas. The English coast project will also look at ways to minimise the impact of people on the landscape and wildlife.
The pilot is a joint venture between the Countryside Agency, English Nature and the Rural Development Service.
Also chosen for the pilot are Southern Cumbria and Morecambe Bay, the Suffolk coast, North Devon, Exmoor, County Durham and Hartlepool.
"We are looking at the potential to improve people's opportunities to understand and appreciate the natural and historic environment that is such a fundamental part of our nation's heritage," said Jim Knight, minister for rural affairs, landscape and biodiversity.
