Residents on the Isle of Sheppey are calling on the authorities to make the only road into Leysdown safer. There has already been one death on the B2231 Leysdown Road this year and as it is the only road into the village any accident causes chaos.
Two weeks ago school children in nearby Eastchurch were unable to get home after a crash closed the road for more than six hours.
Derek Wyatt, Sittingbourne and Sheppey MP, was meeting campaigners on Friday.
Sharp bend
Brenda Harman, vice chair of Leysdown Parish Council, said the 60mph speed limit was one factor that needed to be changed.
"Speed has got to be a contributory factor," she said.
"There is also a sharp bend that seems to be a particular problem and thought's been given to whether it could be straightened and whether there could be a roundabout there."
She also said the road was too narrow to cope with the volume of traffic using it.
"We do need urgent attention... it's too narrow in places. Buses have to virtually stop because it's just not wide enough for them."
