Beach cleanliness has improved over the past decade |
Thirty-four beaches across the South East have been selected for a new book listing the UK's finest seaside areas. The Environmental Campaigns charity, which manages the Blue Flag scheme for clean and safe beaches, has teamed up with VisitBritain to produce the guide.
It is called Britain's Blue Flag Beaches and contains maps, guides and details of what visitors can do or see.
The south-east beaches include 19 in Kent, 11 in East Sussex and four in West Sussex.
Alan Woods, chief executive of Environmental Campaigns, said: "Had we written this guide a decade ago, we would have really struggled to recommend anywhere - such was the state of our coastline.
"But the stinging criticism aimed at many beach managers and water companies has made them sit up and invest heavily in improvements."
