Vomit bug pressure on hospitals
virus
The winter vomiting bug causes sickness and diarrhoea
Extra staff have been brought in at two hospitals after an influx of patients.

NHS chiefs say nearly all beds are in use at Brighton's Royal Sussex County and the Princess Royal, Haywards Heath.

New cases include chest infections and referrals from hospitals coping with the winter sick bug, said Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

On Thursday, hospitals in Kent, Sussex and Surrey had closed wards after outbreaks of the Norovirus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

'Delay visits'

On Thursday, health chiefs said eight wards at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, Surrey, had closed after 51 patients and nine staff were affected by the Norovirus.

Nine more patients and two staff were taken ill on Saturday.

In Kent, 10 wards at the Kent and Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells were closed, and in Sussex, Crawley Hospital was forced to shut one ward.

On Tuesday, Dartford's Livingstone Hospital closed to new admissions after 12 patients contracted the bug.

Health bosses are urging relatives to delay visits unless they are essential.
