The family and colleagues of murdered Pc Ian Broadhurst have held an anniversary service on the spot where he was shot dead last year.

David Bieber killed Pc Broadhust and shot two other officers in the Oakwood area of Leeds last Boxing Day.

A two-minute silence was held at 1607 GMT, marking the exact time the men were shot.

The service was attended by Pc Broadhurst's parents and West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable Colin Cramphorn.

Mr Cramphorn laid a wreath at the scene in Dib Lane.

He said: "Boxing Day will always remind us of Ian's murder and the attempted murder of two of his colleagues.

"Police officers do an extraordinary job, facing danger every day, and sometimes paying the ultimate price for ensuring we can be safe, at Christmas and every hour of every day.

"Ian will never be forgotten and we think of his family at what must be a difficult and painful time for them."

Pc Broadhurst's widow Elissa, 26, did not attend the service but sent a bunch of yellow roses accompanied by a note which read: "Hey babe's, I miss you so much.

"Still don't know what to do a year later without you, don't really want to be here without you but know I can't come with you.

"Keep looking after everyone darling the way you always do, I love you and miss you so much. See you soon my darling, lots of love your wife Eilisa."

The West Yorkshire force's flags at both the Killingbeck divisional headquarters and the Garforth station were lowered to half-mast.

Elizabeth Preece, the divisional commander at Killingbeck station, said on-duty as well as off-duty officers had also paid their respects.

She told BBC News: "The division wanted to mark the event and some officers wanted to take part in that (service) while others marked it in their own way.

Mr Broadhurst, 34, was killed while checking a BMW car which he suspected had been stolen.

Bieber, 38, shot him and two colleagues, Pcs Neil Roper and James Banks, and then fired the fatal bullet into Pc Broadhurst while his victim was lying on the ground injured.

Bieber pleaded not guilty to the shootings but was convicted of murder and attempted murder at Newcastle Crown Court and was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail.
