Biggin Hill Airport is on land leased from Bromley Council |
Possible expansion of Biggin Hill airport has been discussed by councillors in Sevenoaks, Kent. Consultation by the airport follows suggestions in the government's aviation white paper that the site had extra business flight capacity.
Sevenoaks council responded to Regional Airports Ltd, which owns and operates the Bromley airport, with concerns about impact on roads and noise.
The council also found possible leisure and economic benefits from expansion.
Papers submitted to Sevenoaks environment committee on Thursday said government consultation had highlighted Biggin Hill as having a runway and land suitable for commercial aviation.
Documents also said there was potential for a capacity of up to 500,000 passengers a year.

The airport site, in the London Borough of Bromley, is currently leased from Bromley Council which limits the number of aircraft movements to 125,000 per year and restricts hours of operation.
Sevenoaks council has sent its response to Biggin Hill Airport saying renegotiations would have to take place over the conditions of the lease if the plans are to be developed further.
Last year, Bromley Council approved a scheme to build up to 140 homes on the airport's boundary.
Regional Airports is a private firm which owns and operates two London regional airports - London Southend Airport and London Biggin Hill, each operated through a subsidiary company.
