Consultation on planning begins
New home building
Affordable housing schemes are part of the draft plan
The East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) has launched a public consultation on its plan for everything from housing to public transport.

The draft plan addresses development through 2021, including contentious plans to build 478,000 new homes.

Sue Sida-Lockett, the chair of the assembly, said comments from the public "really do count".

They "will help determine the matters discussed when final amendments to the draft plan are considered", she added.

The consultation is being launched on Wednesday morning at the Maltings in Ely, Cambs and will run for 14 weeks.

Public consultation events will then take place early next year in Bedford, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Harlow, Hertford, Ipswich, Luton, Norwich, Peterborough, Southend and Stevenage.

The draft plan and related documents are available at the EERA's website and at local authority offices and public libraries.
